Rebuilding Gilligan’s Island MTB Trial

Oleta MTB trails are expanding in 2023 – including our beloved Gilligan’s Island trail!! This is a MAJOR project, covering roughly 30 acres of park, so will require lots of support and a bit of time.

• We began on January 25th 2023 with initial ground prep and tree planting, supported by a donation from the Miami Heat.
• In parallel, we are working to get another larger donation of trees and resources for planting the Gilligan’s patch. This may come in several waves.

These donations of trees and funding are crucial – but we need additional community support as well.

• Volunteer hours are the most helpful – from simple things like digging to more involved feature construction or operation of heavy machinery. Please let us know how you’d like to contribute and we’ll work to match you with appropriate projects.
• Other critical contributions include financial or material donations. If you use the tails and can’t show up in person, please find a way to contribute here.

• Most of the funds raised here will go toward heavy equipment rentals (track loader, dump truck, backhoe, fuel costs, insurance, wood and material for features, etc.)

The Oleta Trail Blazers (OTB) is a special committee under the Friends of Oleta River State Park Inc. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit citizen support organization (CSO).

• The Oleta Trail Blazers budget is separate from the park budget, and from the Friends of Oleta River State Park budget, and is used specifically to support trail maintenance and construction.
• The Friends of Oleta River State Park CSO is contributing to winning and managing donations of trees and related planting funds along with other admin and logistics support for this project.
• The Oleta Park staff are also supportive (approving plans, operating some machinery for planting, etc.) – but are significantly understaffed and do not have additional people or budget resources for this project – so it’s up to the CSO’s (Oleta Trail Blazers and Friends of Oleta River State Park) to organize, gather resources, and implement the projects.

 Anyone donating $40 or more will receive an OTB card with 12 free admission to the park!
